TV ads in magazines?

The future?

The future?

Last week Pepsi launched the first ever video advert to be embedded within a printed (yes, printed) magazine, inside a limited run of American title Entertainment Weekly.

With a 2.5mm screen, speakers, and a chip that can play up to 40 minutes of video (not to mention the ability to recharge the battery through a USB), readers can enjoy a fully animated ad which activates in the same way as those annoying musical birthday cards when you turn the page.

Is this the birth of all-new video adverts competing for space in battery-filled magazines, or just a gimmick that’s sure to die out?

You can read more about this on the BBC or for the techies amongst us, at CNET
